Fun fact: The tech stack for the Rogue Legacy iOS port consisted entirely of free, open-source software! In this thread I'll walk you through a high-level overview of all the tech I used to bring the game to mobile. ⚔️

I started working on the WebGPU backend for sokol_gfx.h, not much to see yet, but I'll track the work in this PR if anyone is interesting in learning how I go about adding a new backend to sokol-gfx: I almost feel a little bit excited :)

Messing around with HaxeFlixel again. There's so much that I love about it (packed with features, tooling is top-notch) but at the same time, the ecosystem feels so...fragile? Like it's built on such a tall, wobbly tower of abstractions that something is always broken.

Finally got around to playing AM2R. Man, it’s so good. Absolutely lives up to the standard of the canon Metroid games.

Just so no one misses it, I'm hosting the matrix on Google Sheets. Feel free to leave a comment if you have some insight to share, and I will update the graph accordingly. :)

I've seen a lot of confusion and uncertainty recently about which graphics APIs are viable for cross-platform support. Here's a little matrix I compiled that compares all the major graphics APIs and platforms, so you can easily see what's supported where.

And there are performance benefits too, of course! From my testing, macOS games typically use 10% less GPU and 40% less RAM when running with Metal, compared to OpenGL. 😀 (And the story on iOS is even better!)

I've been working on this for the past nine months, and it's finally ready to ship! 🎉🍾🥳 Metal support means that FNA games like Celeste, TowerFall, Chasm, Axiom Verge, and Rogue Legacy will survive Apple's OpenGL-pocalypse, so you can keep playing your fav games on macOS. :)

The only thing more annoying than the people complaining about VVVVVV's code quality are the FOSS cave trolls creeping out from the shadows to whine about how ""ackchyually"" it's not """open source"""

re: VVVVVV getting open sourced: Not to subtweet anyone in particular too hard, but personally I'd like it if we had more "awesome, thanks!" sort of responses to people open sourcing their previously-closed-source games, and less "WOW THIS CODE SUCKS!"

    1. I eat (at least) one bowl of oatmeal almost every single day. 2. I crush up PopTarts and put them in oatmeal for added flavor and texture. 3. S'mores and Raspberry are my fav PopTart flavors to put in oatmeal. 4. Dinosaur Egg = best oatmeal 5. Wait what was this list again

tfw when you write code so ungodly terrible that it triggers a bug in the C# runtime previously thought to be "theoretical"

This little piggy's helping me debug a tricky performance issue in MetalDevice! Does anyone else have a stock collection of animal pictures they use for testing graphics stuff, or is that just me?
