Raise awareness and build international partnerships that recognize the emerging threats and trends in terrorism, including white supremacy extremism. Raising awareness and shaping the discourse on terrorism is a comparative advantage of the UN, from the top to the field.
Build on existing counterterrorism capacity-building efforts to address a range of terrorist threats, including violent far-right groups. Examples include improving border management, strengthening aviation security, & boosting international legal & law enforcement cooperation.
Finally, the UN can play a role in developing sanctions and measures more targeted at the violent far-right groups that have clearly articulated international connections.
In the fight against transnational terrorism and violent extremism, all states play an important role.
