On the flipside, the executable is packed with embedded Steam DRM hiding the actual game code from e.g. IDA, but just like with Sonic Adventure 2 this shouldn't be too bad to unpack. Very tired right now but if there is interest I could do it.

PS. If nobody unpacks the Mania EXE from Steam DRM in a reasonable timeframe (~5 days from now), please remind me. I'll try to get on and do it myself if I can find some time in such a case.

In case it is not obvious: This post regards the beta branch. You can access it by right clicking Mania on Steam and in Properties => Betas entering the password `sonicmaniabeta` as per the official posthttps://steamcommunity.com/app/584400/discussions/0/1836811737977650742/ …

so...over 98% of the game's executable was just Denuvo DRM

-
My original completely educated guess used to be 4.4MB, seems I wasn't that far off.

Finally. Sega listens.
-
And with Sonic of all franchises
-
Not really a huge revelation, but yeah, they did listen!
-
The idea is to use it to protect your product for the initial sales bump, after which it doesn't matter if it's cracked or not, as piracy doesn't affect sales anything like as much as it did on release.
-
Using drm is treating your customers like pirates. Pirates don't have to worry about drm in the slightest and most drm is cracked within hours. Much like this one was.
-
In other words drm only affects the real customers who suffer from it and is a complete waste of time.
-
Absolutely, yes. But the reason it gets removed is more down to the initial sales period being over, than any one company "listening to their customers". The acid test will be whether or not it's added to their next release.

To think Denuvo was the sole reason why Sonic Mania was released on PC almost a month after consoles, with the reprogrammed release date not even announced for several weeks - guess who had to buy it twice
-
I've purchased Sonic Mania on PC, however, I've never bothered to download it to my PC all because of the POS Denuvo DRM software. Glad I never returned it.

Excellent news - wish they'd done it sooner, but definitely a case of "better late than never"...! = )

That, or never added it in the first place, but hey Live & Learn.
