WalMart reported $13B in NET profit last year. 13 BILLION. They didn't have to close 63 stores. Hell, they didn't even have to claim they needed the tax break to give their employees increased pay w/ THAT amt of profit.
-
It doesnt matter what their profits were. A smart businessman will close stores that are losing them money. Ur staement is useless
-
We don't even know that those stores were losing money. They MAY have closed them because WM decided they didn't make ENOUGH profit. At what point is enough profit enough is what you have to ask yourself.
-
Ok this is a REALLY dumb statement. If a company is making profit from a store they are not closing it unless profits are a couple thousand
-
And to your belief(because that's what it is) as to businesses DON'T close stores that make $, well, hate to burst your bubble with facts, but:https://www.fool.com/investing/2017/01/21/why-macys-is-closing-even-profitable-stores.aspx …

Yeah, I knew you had to work for them a long time, and considering what they pay, how many are seriously going to work THAT long for them? At least as a percentage of their overall workers.

I'm going to guess under 4 years, without knowing any actual facts. It would be interesting to know that. I DO have a buddy who's worked in their distribution center for over 10.

It's even worse when you consider that they weren't even officially "told" by anyone. Customers and employees alike came to their stores to only a "Closed" sign.
-
It's really shitty management to do that to people.

I was just about to praise
#Walmart for finally raising pay. And then I see this. Typical. -
I told someone else earlier that it's like a bad relationship- they feel they have to do 1 bad thing for every good thing they do for you.

No, those bonuses were for employees that have been there from a couple of years, on up. Only, not all were $1000. Just those there around 20 years get the $1000. 10 to 14 years get $750... and it goes down to those who have been there 1 or 2 years, who get $250.
-
Oh, I know. That's why I stated that it was certain employees not all of them.

And I'm one of those employees who showed up to work to find out I'm out of a job in 2 weeks.
-
Wow. Sorry to hear that for you. Hope you're able to find something new soon.

And not long ago announced cashier will be replace within a year by self checkouts.
-
@kroger said they'll be doing the same thing w/ some stores this year. WalMart reported $13B in net profit last year. At what point corporations have to ask themselves what amt of profit is enough? -
When only a couple hundred or less of the richest share holders don't have to wait for their money to pass through employees hands before they can get it.
