I wrote a blog post about frontend and why it should be a top priority for service teams. "Web performance can mean the difference in someone being able to get what they need from government or abandoning their task completely."

Anyone happen to know if there is a central resource for pointing people to how they can help support social justice efforts that includes resources globally? Both financially and actively (calling your reps in the US, MP's in the UK, etc)?

Ever wanted to test the web performance of your sites 404 page, but the testing tools failed because it returns a 404 code? Well now you can with this little workaround in WebPageTest. Thanks (again) to for fixing this!

Set the minimum duration in the advanced tab to 1 or 2 seconds to enable it.
    Waterfall with minimum duration set.

And we can finally make the most the features H2 has to offer. Serving all assets off a single domain allows: • all assets to use a connection that is up to speed (TCP slow start) • prioritisation can happen across all assets • no more h2 connection coalescing required 3/4

Considering where we were at the start of Feb: HTTP/1.1, SRI, shard domain, ~13 TCP connections. Now down to just 1 TCP connection in many cases. 2/4

Great to see some fantastic work happening on at the moment. The team have been gradually removing the shard domain for critical assets, and it's made quite a difference! Images from Chrome on a 3G connection and S4 on 3G. 1/4

In the Page Weight chapter of the 2019 Web Almanac, and make an important point: unoptimized images and autoplaying videos are not just performance issues — they can actually cost some users real money. 🔖
