Trophy hunting is important in Africa it stops poachers, funds villages so the humans can survive, and gets rid of overpopulation of animals in certain areAs. Still weird as fuck though

It really isn’t at all tho, it’s such a small percent of Africa’s GDP and most of that money barely makes it to the rural communities where they’re killing the animals, it also destabilizes the animals population i.e lions/elephants and gives a smokescreen for poachers

Eco-tourism is by far the better option. Trophy hunting is just weird fucks getting off on killing something great

Most of the “poachers” in Africa are just people who are poor trying to make money to survive when trophy hunters come in and pay thousands of dollars to hunt it eliminates the need for the poachers to poach alot of them then protect the animals creating more need

For trophy hunters and less poachers which keeps businesses open and keep the villages stable

The money doesn’t go directly to the villagers, majority of the cash goes to a middleman and not the community plus most of these places have corrupt governments so the rich get richer and the communities get what little money trickles down

Look up project campfire, communities who do trophy hunting on their land get 100 percent of the money and even if some places do get a share of the money it’s enough to support their community and minimizes poaching

Project Campfire is the only “successful” time this has ever been done and it’s in Zimbabwe one of the most corrupt countries on Earth. When Nat Geo interviewed villagers in the Campfire program they said neither them or their communities got a cent

And that’s from about $150k a year which in my opinion really isn’t worth pushing elephants closer to extinction because elephants are dope as fuck

African Elephants aren’t endangered animals though

Idk if they’re on the endangered list rn but their population dropped by a third from 2007-2014 so they’re getting there and trophy hunting def isn’t helping slow it down
