My heart is broken for the family and friends of Jaelynn Willey, one of the victims of the recent shooting at Great Mills High School in Maryland. This tragedy further underscores our need to act with urgency to ensure our students and teachers are safe at school.

@KyleKashuv She was nervous but she wants to support u kyle. We have complained to her school but they don't do much. The kid who threw scissors at her head was a kid we made many complaints about. Schools need to handle these situations better.

WATCH: This precious little girl sent me a video thanking me for creating and for my work on #StopSchoolViolenceAct. Then, Twitter users attacked her and her mom, so she wanted to explain her story and why she made the video for me.

Finished dinner with American Patriot @BetsyDeVos @BetsyDeVosEd! She is incredibly nice; we accomplished a lot and discussed #STOPSchoolViolenceAct among many other subjects. So insightful. America should be proud to have a Secretary who only wants what's best for the Country.

We're proud of everyone involved who got the #StopSchoolViolenceAct passed, including #ReachOut Co-creator who spent the last two weeks meeting with lawmakers to make sure our schools become safe again! We can't wait to bring to schools!

Today the House took major steps toward securing our schools by passing the STOP School Violence Act. We must put the safety of America's children FIRST by improving training and by giving schools and law enforcement better tools. A tragedy like Parkland can't happen ever again!
