    1) The bombshell news of the failed effort to kill Shahlai shows once again that we have no idea how deep Trump's deceptions on Iran really run. We talked to two senior House Democrats about the news. Here are their quotes: It's alarming stuff.https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/01/10/new-iran-revelations-suggest-trumps-deceptions-were-deeper-than-we-thought/ …

        2) @RepEliotEngel, chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee, says he has "no doubt" that the operation is broader than we know, and largely being concealed from Congress: “The more you hear, the more you realize that you’ve been fed a bunch of untruths." https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/01/10/new-iran-revelations-suggest-trumps-deceptions-were-deeper-than-we-thought/ …pic.twitter.com/MzMB2SYKKH

        3) Rep Tom @Malinowski. a member of Foreign Affairs and a former state dept official, make this alarming point: “If the objective was to weaken the Quds Force irrespective of ... imminent attacks on Americans, then where does that end? And is it over?” https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/01/10/new-iran-revelations-suggest-trumps-deceptions-were-deeper-than-we-thought/ …pic.twitter.com/0DVwXxqEyi

        4) @RepEliotEngel tells us that @SecPompeo is probably NOT going to show up at the Foreign Affairs Committee hearing next week. In light of this latest news, that's incredibly derelict and indefensible: https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/01/10/new-iran-revelations-suggest-trumps-deceptions-were-deeper-than-we-thought/ …pic.twitter.com/IL64n2l4gT

        5) Why would @SecPompeo blow off the hearing? Maybe because he can't handle the mounting questions about the imploding rationales for the assassination. He's struggling to explain the "imminent" attack *and* Trump's claim of threats to embassies: https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/01/10/new-iran-revelations-suggest-trumps-deceptions-were-deeper-than-we-thought/ …pic.twitter.com/R2bKZMeAhX

        6) Making this far worse, @shaneharris and team are reporting that the intelligence doesn't support Trump's claim of threats to embassies. Note that Trump's brain is addled with Benghazi-itis. Here's the key part: https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/trump-now-claims-four-embassies-were-under-threat-from-iran-raising-fresh-questions-about-intelligence-reports/2020/01/10/02f8d154-33e7-11ea-a053-dc6d944ba776_story.html …pic.twitter.com/clZ0HVFkxa

        7) It is in *this* context that Senate Republicans may decline to assert Congressional authority over Trump's war powers. This is amazingly irresponsible and craven, given the uncertain depths of Trump's deceptions here. But it really might happen. Trump's plan was to go to war with Iran, fulfilling Evangelicals' dream of End or Times (Jews & Muslims annihilate each other in a holy war, so Christians get Jerusalem for themselves). He reversed only because Tucker fiercely rebelled on Fox News, else the war would be underway.
