The field of view in this image is 36,500 km to a side, or a little bit less than three times the diameter of . Here's an image to show you how big our homeworld is compared with this scene:

  5. Now, Karalee Brugman (with as co-author) is discussing how petrology can tell us about properties, and I for one am a big fan of using our knowledge of rocks on Earth to understand rocky bodies elsewhere!

  6. Jani asks: "Has anyone been [to this volcano in Tanzania]? Me neither." (But she's planning to go, and to be fair it's a lot easier to get to than an exoplanet!)

  10. For the final block of talks of the first day, Alfred McEwan is starting off by talking about tidal heating, and what can tell us about exoplanets! (And I spy some artwork!)

  14. Next up: Steven Desch is reviewing the process of planetary growth via pebble accretion - and tells us that, at many astronomy meetings, one can play a drinking game when it comes to how many ALMA telescope images turn up!

My 7 year old was tapping away on my Mac tonight and told me he was writing a book. I think you’ll agree it’s one hell of an opening.
