I'm guessing it'll happen in 18-24 months

Yeah that's what I thought, what an optimistic headline

Oh, if only that would happen...

Watch it fall and walk away: Rarely the best solution from what I've seen in my life. I imagine that a general collapse would help the well-to-do, who have means to survive it. Maybe a Financial *Sector* collapse is different.
-
It would benefit farmers as well, especially the ones who have established it without subsidies or already got the necessary equipment via subsidies before the collapse.
-
Good point, of course relatively so, as all would suffer to some degree if a real correction were to occur - though as always it would be individual assessment. One guy might be in a position to 'profit' and love such a thing, and for some lifestyle might not change much at all.
-
How much suffering do you think the government prevents, beyond just providing welfare to the poor, which comes at the ‘taxpayers’ dime’ which is a violation of private property?
-
Not sure that welfare is a net reduction of suffering. Individuals acting in government capacity can reduce suffering, in individual cases i.e. LEO helps someone (though misallocated). But whatever % of suffering reduction a government can provide, markets would tend lower.
-
Exactly. Which is why I think the free market is all we need.
