Because the value isn’t based off of anything other than the value of other people buying into the value.

-
which is exactly the same thing for fiat currencies...

And, like these other fine people said, supported by a country’s government. The value of the dollar directly correlates to the value of gold held by the U.S. govt., so the dollar’s value doesn’t fluctuate with the same volatility as bitcoin, because it’s based off of some real.
-
As you migh know (or not) Nixon ended the system that linked the value of the dollar to the treasury's stock of gold in 1971. Dollar is correlated to nothing and only have the value people give to it.
-
Oh shit, no I did not know that. Hmmm
Well either way, the dollar is still something tangible that can be traded for goods & services. Meanwhile bitcoin is still an arbitrary idea. And what do people do when they “cash out” on bitcoin? They exchange their bitcoins for actual $ -
I actually agree with you for the moment Bitcoin is way too volatile to consider buying important things such as houses, cars or any "long term" things...
-
So then what is it good for? Being a commodity for commodity’s sake? Because that’s stupid, even if people are “getting rich” off of it.
-
The value is the technology behind It, not the actual token. The point of It is that we don’t need a middle man (bank) to give permission to transfer value from one to another. It bring the power of money back to the people

Since the US dollar went off the gold standard, it too is crazy imaginary money. It only works because we believe it works.
-
In reality, gold, carbon chains, etc. have no value other than what we give them. The only valuable things are those we need to survive. Food, water, etc.
-
Robux are the only currency with real value. I vote for the robux standard.
-
My son would agree with you, the Robux standard.

All money is imaginary

But some (most, even) is actively managed by bodies that mostly protect it from wild fluctuation.
-
Bitcoin is managed but it’s decentralized that’s the whole point.
