This joke is in poor taste, even for the Onion.

Even I can relate to this experience. This proves that video game violence actually decreases real world violence and that the Onion is the most trustworthy news source.

I would be laughing hysterically at this, but it's too believable...

Mmm.... I live sarcasm and satire and Onion is mostly very good but this piece is pushing way too far. It's not even funny. It doesn't have the elements to be funny even. It's in very bad taste.
-
why? has there been a recent influx of game-related murders? it's a non-specific joke with no context that's intentionally ridiculous what is even too far about it?
-
Satire is achieved when real facts are pushed to an imaginary extreme, where they become ridiculous & comical. There's nothing comical or imaginary about a kid shooting people. Such shootings actually happen with tragic results. It's very bad taste, not satire & not funny.
-
the joke is that the parent is suggesting the child to go outside and kill people rather than pretending to kill people in a manner which is usually used to suggest a more productive activity. the joke is literally written out for you. how could you miss it?

you guys are getting bad at this. shock ain't satire. just here for the ratio.
-
It's making a point though, it's mocking people that blame video games for violence.
-
