Between the fires in California and the reality of animal cruelty this is neither funny nor provocative. It is a major fail and despicably tasteless.

I just called my mom to tell her about this and she told me luckily my dog that we sent there 25 years ago was able to escape and run to another, even more beautiful, farm. Thank God, that was close.

It has finally happened. The Onion's reality is now preferable to actual reality - and it includes euthanasia by fire.

Considering the Carr fire and others right now this is very poor taste. Please remove.

I loathe explaining jokes but considering the number of "outraged" people on this one- it's not about dogs and it's not about fires. It's about parents lying to their kids to try to spare them pain. I love dogs and I can smell smoke from the Ferguson fire and I laughed. Hard.

Was it the farm upstate?
-
What other farm could it be?
-
I think that would depend where people live -- maybe downstate if they live in the northern part of a state?

Wtf? Is this theonion trying to be edgy? I'm pretty sure this one is for the fail column.
-
Did your parents send your childhood dog to the farm?
-
Never had one never wanted one. This joke was desperate trying to get I-can't-believe-they-said-that laughs.
-
It's hilarious man, the joke is that they were already dead. Smh

-
"had been getting healthier and healthier before the fire hit." Smh indeed.
