Just to update on this tweet; Mojang reached out really quickly to investigate, and they've correct the problem with a hotfix to the launcher. Have tested it several times, and it's all clean! 
Just make sure to update your launcher before uninstalling it x

Your sacrifice shall not be in vain! I have it installed on my main drive, I have backups upon backups but it would for sure have been a nasty surprise

When you say launcher, I have just been kicking it off from the Microsoft Store, is there a standalone launcher?
