http://blog.mangagamer.org/2018/05/18/regarding-recent-inquires-into-steam-content-policy-notices/ … Kindred Spirits in particular, a game that went through a public vetting process by Valve two years ago, got served with a takedown notice. I’m hearing others are getting the same thing sent to them.

In the end, it feels like a repeat of the same thing that always plagues Steam: large changes to policy, with little to no explanation of what got changed, or how exemptions would work.

It occurs to me that if this were the point that people focused on, we could probably get a lot more support from the wider Steam community. Instead, everyone seems to want to bury the lede with hyperbolic assertions about "attacks on queer games" and "attacks on VNs".

Valve are doing wrong, but it isn't an attack on either unless you consider VNs and/or "queer games" to be inherently racy/sexual/lewd. The focus should be on Valve's hypocrisy/inconsistency, because frankly, "Our game isn't TECCHNICALLY porn" isn't a great spot to argue from.

Unless there's a takedown notice for Witcher 3 floating around, this is definitely a targeted attack on specific styles of game.

Do you feel that all queer-related games or all visual novels are inherently lewd, racy, or sexual in nature?

I personally do not, so I'd like to know what your opinion is.

I ask because if your answer is 'no', then this raises the question of whether these VNs or queer-related games that entirely lack provocative (so to speak) content are being taken down by Valve also.

My point is, Valve going after VNs or queer-related games as a whole would surprise me, while them going after VNs or queer-related games that have adult or possibly-adult content surprises me less so. And I dunno how Valve ignoring Witcher 3 *isn't* inconsistent enforcement.

It just seems to me that this is a situation that should alarm way more people (and developers) than just those in the visual novel or queer communities. Valve are attacking borderline-adult games in just those genres *now*, but who's to say they *won't* go after Witcher 3?
