What's with this Laurel vs. Yanny thing? Is it just some made-up thing? Because try as I might - studio headphones, bandstop filters, you name it - I can't gin up anything that sounds like "Yanny" to me.

Definitely a possibility. Isolating just the word "laurel" is easy but I haven't been able to get "yanny" on it's own without still being able to hear some of "laurel" so I'm leaning towards compression artifact.
Same. I can clearly hear what other people are hearing, but I think folks are convincing themselves that they're hearing something when it's just a compression artifact.
