What's with this Laurel vs. Yanny thing? Is it just some made-up thing? Because try as I might - studio headphones, bandstop filters, you name it - I can't gin up anything that sounds like "Yanny" to me.

Oh, yes. Just as you mentioned that, I tried throwing a hard bandstop from 0.5-2kHz. Now I hear the Yanny. Seems to me like there are a lot of people with some fucked-up speakers and/or headphones in the world. That makes me sad.

Yeah, first time I heard it I was able to clearly hear both words at the same time in what sounded like two different voices.

I wouldn't even be surprised if it isn't actually two voices recorded together, just a compression artifact creating side bands.
