What's with this Laurel vs. Yanny thing? Is it just some made-up thing? Because try as I might - studio headphones, bandstop filters, you name it - I can't gin up anything that sounds like "Yanny" to me.

I have a colleague who hears Yanny with one ear, Laurel with the other.

I bet that colleague will respond to different frequencies in one ear versus the other, too. See my tweets circa January about my ear infection and subsequent upward half-tone transposition in one ear. Now *that* was weird.

It has something to do with the waveforms of the two being identical, the only difference being the pitch. I personally hear Yanny, and my coworkers are split half and half.
