Temple Grandin is a problem for #autistic people.
Her
"Stimming is fine as long as it's done at the right time and place."
and
"Autistics today don't find jobs because they haven't been drilled with proper manners like in the 50s."
kind of bullshit is SO harmful.
#sigh
And if at the end of the day you decide it's not for you, fine - but if you get to abdicate from integrating into society, society gets to abdicate bowing and scraping to your very highness.

I'm not suggesting that you be able to conjure up coping skills out of pure thin air. That just isn't realistic. But at the same time, if you have *any* resources available to you to learn to cope with society at large, then you owe it to yourself and everyone else to use them.

The presence of a neurological disorder is, and only ever will be, an explanation, not an excuse. And there is a very important distinction between the two: Even with autism you still have personal agency. Bad behavior might have an explanation, but it has no excuse whatsoever.
