I usually go with a diabetic using insulin as a comparison but the theory is the same. It usually works too
How I explain it to people is: If your pancreas, or your liver, or whatever, isn't making the "right" chemicals, would you take medication to compensate? Of course you would. Well, your brain is simply an organ just like your pancreas, or liver.
