Tonight's MAME development fun-fest: Writing a device class for the SAA1043 Universal Sync Generator IC, which will make life easier in emulating the Philips VP415 LV-ROM Player. I'll try to start streaming at roughly 19:00 Stockholm time. No voice, just video and music.

The VP415 is a beast but very modular. @simoninns has one of my players for repair and i have given the go ahead if he needs to dump anything from it. Be aware that there are multiple versions of the firmware EPROMs.

Ahoy Ian! Thanks for the heads-up. In discussing it with Simon, we've agreed that we'll try the initial 8041 dumping process on a spare Module S from a VP410, and if results look okay, only then will we try it on the VP415. Better safe than sorry.

In principle, it's as simple as going to verify mode while skipping 'program' mode - as safe as houses. In practice, since these are mask parts and the instructions are for EPROM parts, it's important to start at a relatively low voltage applied to the EA pin and go slowly up.
