My thoughts? If you'll allow me to get up on my soapbox for several tweets in a row: As an
#ActuallyAutistic adult, I am *intensely* grateful for the fact that "Asperger's" has been deprecated in favor of Autism Level 1.1 vastaus 0 uudelleentwiittausta 2 tykkäystä -
Maybe I just have a few more social genes than some of my compatriots, and can tell when people are laughing at me and not with me, but you tell someone you have Asperger's, and what's the most likely thing to happen? "Hey, get a load of this guy, he's got ASS burgers!"

Tell people you have Asperger's and everyone's a comedian. Tell them you have autism, and the comedy shuts off like a light. That's good, because I can laugh at my disorder and crack nuanced jokes about it, but NTs have all the subtlety of a brick through a living room window.

To NTs, "ass burgers" is the pinnacle of rip-roaring comedy. Meanwhile, now that I have Autism Level 1, I like to tell people that it's not all bad, because once I grind out enough XP to hit Autism Level 5, the 'Wapner' perk really improves my DPS (definitelies per second).

At the end of the day, all I see my autism as is an auxiliary set of mental attributes that I've got, some good, some bad. I appreciate the good while working hard to learn to cope with the bad by rote. I refuse to accept being socially stunted because I lost the genetic lottery.

Call it autism, call it Asperger's, call it Dsqphzbnt for all I care, the symbolic nomenclature has zero bearing on whether or not I would have had to go through speech therapy in 4th grade, and as a result now have a perfect radio voice. If you value the name, ask why.

*picks mic back up* A more simple way of putting it: I am not my autism. I am a *person* who has a certain attribute. The name of the attribute is unimportant to me; its effects are what matter.
