If someone can taste sound or hear images, it would be the height of hubris for me to not truly believe that a person can be born with the wrong physical gender. The mind and the body are absolutely *not* inextricably linked.
You can be a '67 Chevy Nova for all I care. If you're a good person who doesn't punch down on people I'll support you to the ends of the earth. And I say this as a "dude" who needs 2-3 sentences to explain "his" gender.
