No, they're not "correct" in the literal sense. I don't debate that. But if you have two captures of two tapes, with both having had the mylar physically damaged in different spots, then shouldn't it be viable to splice the two together to form a capture better than either one?
For LDs that encode digital data into the audio track, could this be an instance where tapping into the player's innards might actually make sense?

I'm not sure. If the data on the audio track was normally used from the actual audio out connector of a player, probably not, unless the player being used for capture is doing extra audio processing.

Since it probably wouldn't be difficult to try (given service man or schem of player), probably worthwhile to try it, and compare to player's audio output.
