This reminds me of Cavalier d’Éon who lived half of her life as a man and half as a woman and was a spy and master sword fighter in the 1700’s

If you haven’t, you might also enjoy reading about Catalina de Erauso/Francisco de Loyola, the “lieutenant nun,” from whom we actually have an autobiography. They killed one of their own brothers in a duel, possibly in a dispute over a woman.

I love and respect all of my trans sisters and brothers, but I have to admit that I am as uncomfortable with ascribing the transgender label to long-dead historical figures as I am uncomfortable, being on the autism spectrum, with claims that people like Einstein were autistic.

Assuming they were NOT trans or NB is equally unsupported, as well as contributing to erasure. Of course, the reality of male privilege does mean that historical AFABs who lived as men may have simply been trying to avoid the restrictions women faced. de Erauso (cont)

de Erauso continued to live as a man even after her assigned sex was uncovered and made public, which lends credence to the idea that they may have identified as male if presented with that as a possibility.

And you may very well be correct, but we'll never know any more than we''l know Einstein was autistic. You're welcome to your views, but why not promote people like Wendy Carlos, Alex Adams, or Sophie Wilson rather than long-buried people who can no longer speak for themselves?

But I suppose as a non-binary individual who chooses to present as male, my opinion doesn't matter, does it?

Pro tip: don’t make statements like this. “Oh so my opinion doesn’t matter” is a thought-terminating cliche.

You're absolutely right, it was a flippant and uncalled-for statement. I apologize.
