I was going to work on MAME's BGFX backend tonight, but in the intervening 3 years since last looking at it, someone else decided to litter my code with "auto". I will still work on it, but more petulantly than before.

Being able to remove all those stl typedefs I had to use made parts of our codebase much easier to read. I would never use auto as a place holder for basic types.
Sounds like we use auto much in the same way, then. I mean if I'm dealing with an std::vector<std::unique_pointer<foo>>::iterator, it's a perfect candidate for auto. The surrounding code will indicate it's an iterator, and I'll know the type of the container I'm getting it from.
