Question for any parents: Is 5 years old a reasonable age to start trying to teach a kid to cover their mouth when they cough? Especially when they've clearly been sick, based on how 'wet' my nephew-in-law's coughs were sounding?

Because his mom wasn't saying anything to try to get him to cover his mouth, he was just open-mouthed coughing all throughout the family get together on the 24th and 25th. I'm starting to feel the upper-body pain and sniffles of an oncoming cold, and I'm kind of angry about that.

Aaaand I'm running a temp of 38.7C / 101.66F, that's not good.

Aaaand we're up to 39.6C / 103.2F. If it hits 104.5, I'm heading to the hospital.

I'm also wearing 3 layers of shirts and have a space heater going, because I was getting really bad chills through my whole body. Should I be doing the opposite - opening windows, turning off the space heater, etc.?

I hope you get well soon. Stay hydrated & make sure you have a way to the hospital safely if you need to go. For the kid: Yes, his mother should be teaching him to cover the cough. Tell a kid to act like a vampire, hiding their cough like hiding behind a cape.

Thank you much for the well-wishes and advice. That's also a fantastic idea of getting them to pretend they're like a vampire - "cover your mouth!" just sounds like admonition, "remember to be a vampire!" is brilliant to get them enthusiastic about it. God bless!
