Question for any parents: Is 5 years old a reasonable age to start trying to teach a kid to cover their mouth when they cough? Especially when they've clearly been sick, based on how 'wet' my nephew-in-law's coughs were sounding?

Because his mom wasn't saying anything to try to get him to cover his mouth, he was just open-mouthed coughing all throughout the family get together on the 24th and 25th. I'm starting to feel the upper-body pain and sniffles of an oncoming cold, and I'm kind of angry about that.

I'm also wearing 3 layers of shirts and have a space heater going, because I was getting really bad chills through my whole body. Should I be doing the opposite - opening windows, turning off the space heater, etc.?

It should be taught as soon as they're able to learn it. I taught my little sister to cough into her arm when she was 3 and she picked the habit up quick. Probably saved a bunch of people getting sick.
