On one hand, Nintendo fans would probably lose their minds if they only knew that I'm actively buying Nintendo Game & Watch handhelds to ostensibly have their circuit boards hacked apart with a saw and then boiled in nitric acid.
I wish I could say that I'm only doing it to unplayable units! They're vastly preferred, but at the end of the day, people have a really bad tendency to simply bin faulty LCD handhelds rather than try to resell them, so the options are rather limited.

Ah, well, I’m still glad they’re being preserved and documented like this. Better now than later when they are truly impossible to find!

This is true - and depending on whether a given handheld has an electrically-dumpable microcontroller as opposed to an unknown architecture or one with no known exploits, it can in some cases be possible to keep the handheld running. But safety is never guaranteed.
