Additional info on the pledge drive for the LCD-auction-of-doom: Some (a minority) of the games in the auction are already emulated by MAME, or have been obtained for dumping. In those cases, I will be attempting to resell them in order to return as many pledges as possible.
I wouldn't consider it right for my collection to benefit from other peoples' generosity. You're pledging to get the games dumped, not to see any spares sit on my shelf. I just don't think we should *expect* to rely on that to defray costs, as auction sales are never guaranteed.
Couldn’t I just donate my pledge to the project anyway? I’m sure the devs could use it. Or is that too messy logistically?
There's no one donation point for MAME in general (the developers tend to shy away from financial matters). The Dumping Union, however, generally doesn't involve itself in anything but arcade-related matters. So in this case, I'm pretty much shouldering the entire thing.
Just sell them off and buy more games or more tools for the project!
That's exactly the plan! Every last cent that I'm able to recoup will simply end up being earmarked for buying other things to be dumped. :-)
