You might have hit the nail on the head, actually. The G&W series also silently run in "attract mode" (i.e., playing themselves) when the clock is active. So you can game on it, and you can watch it!
That is really cool, I've only a few times actually gotten my hands on G&W devices, and those were years ago, so I don't really know/remember many of the functions they have
