On the other hand, that's what needs to be done in order to retrieve the ROM contents of the microcontrollers contained within. And after that's done, the games will be permanently preserved for historical posterity through MAME.

Which leads me to my point: If you have a partly-functioning or non-functioning Game & Watch, or other vintage LCD handheld, and are willing to ship it off so that it can be preserved permanently through the magic of emulation, kindly reach out to me! It would save me money.

Absolutely! If you can DM me a complete list, I'll forward it over to the dude who does the depackaging/dumping, and see which ones are needed. I must stress that it *is* an inherently destructive process, but (usually) with good results.

Which ones do you need? I have a few here in a box

Anything not in the latest MAME source on Github. I've also picked up a Zelda, Green House, Oil Panic, Fire, tabletop Mario's Cement Factory, and an Octopus, and our dumping guy has a Bomb Sweeper. Also, thanks! Also, keep in mind that the dumping process is destructive.

Actually, I'm happy to see somebody out there is doing this. Especially since you're only doing it to unplayable units. These games deserve to be preserved!

I wish I could say that I'm only doing it to unplayable units! They're vastly preferred, but at the end of the day, people have a really bad tendency to simply bin faulty LCD handhelds rather than try to resell them, so the options are rather limited.
