Having played through the first six levels of Cuphead so far, I don't think it's the punishing, hard-as-nails platformer people say it is.
Yes, but is it bad? The need to eat quarters to ensure player throughput was real in the era of arcade games. Is it now?

I'd say games as a whole have trended to 'easier'. They've become more approachable, with console and computer gaming coming into their own.

I suppose this is the natural evolution of gaming. It just seems that there's less challenge.
