Depends on the nature of the position. The few times I've interviewed people, I've cared way more about comprehension than rote knowledge.
I was on the opposite end: The person evaluating the applicant. Mid-level programming role on a game middleware team.

As someone evaluating a potential hire, I'm perfectly fine with "I'll Google it," as long as it is something I would expect to Google for.

If an applicant expects to Google for some algorithm specific to the project, that's a bad sign, sure. I totally agree on that point.
