Like, I'm down to pay 125€ for a mouthpiece if I have to, but it seems like there's no middle ground between silver and plastic.

Can a brass player more familiar with the technical aspects tell me why mouthpieces are always silver? Why not a cheaper alloy?

I don't think there is much of a reason other than it's easy to make and therefore theres no need for change, sells well, looks "better"...

However some metals do effect the sound quality of the instrument (hence the reason why they use bronze instead of say aluminum in bells...
