Illustrated book. Story book. Brother & sister wander off to the local junkyard (I dunno, parents didn't like their kids as much back then).
There they discover a robot! But not just any robot: This one has a monitor in its chest, and a keyboard, and it understands BASIC!

Thus they program it to do all sorts of whimsical things, the kid learning as they go: Say hello, ask their name, kill Sarah Connor, etc.

Point is, dudes, I was frickin' *6* when I saw that book. I can't remember the title or author, and it kills me that I can't find it.
