Why should you have to be bribed to even consider the arguments of those you disagree with?

I'm pretty sure we lie in more or less the same band of the political spectrum, so I'm even more interested in why, by the way.
Suppose it's a Trump voter. Me, I dislike Trump. But why I should I not try to learn more about people who voted for him - what led to this?
