IDK, but the English have got it figured out, "torch" just plain sounds way more badass than "flashlight".
Flashlight: "Aww, is a poor widdle baby afraid of a zombie?" Torch: "HELL YEAH LET'S MESS THOSE ZOMBIES UP"

First time I was exposed to that was in Time Bandits. "Get his torch!" yelled the British guy.
