Like, game design just seems to consist of "How can we be an asshole to the player?"

@TheMogMiner Agreed. In SP games, where this is usually done, it only helps the player have a closer game though, and penalizes nobody.
@SirBoilerlot That's the thing. If I'm doing well at a given difficulty level, I should just play at a higher difficulty, not be penalized.
