Dunno about Switch specifically but I've had this happen with all kinds of tablets and smartphones. Seems sometimes they just want to be plugged in for a couple hours after going completely dead 
Same thing I said to Nuurbs a moment ago - it's been sitting in the dock for weeks. Perhaps it didn't have a good connection, and I'm trying a direct connection now, but it's concerning.
Uh, well, it seems that the issue is solved! Just needed to hold the power button down for an inordinately long time.
That was gonna be my next suggestion. Seems like no matter how long you hold it for, it's waiting for you to hold it just a fraction of a second more
