*UPDATE*, it just up and powered on after I held the power button down for about 10 seconds. Went to the Nintendo logo, blanked, then brought up the system menu, reporting 93% battery charge. Yeah, I don't get it either.

Switch owners, a question: Didn't use my Switch for nearly a year. Battery went completely flat. No response even when plugged into the charger, holding the power button doesn't even get a charging icon on the LCD. How fucked am I?

I do this to mine all the time, it'll charge if you are patient. Using the charger it comes with helps!

How direct should the connection be? It's been sitting in the dock, with the charger connected to the dock, for weeks at this point, but still no love. I'm now trying it connected directly to the (official) charger, but I'm growing concerned. Do the joycons need to be attached?

Let it charge and try again later. I've got scares like that, but it have always comeback to live after letting some time recharging

Dunno about Switch specifically but I've had this happen with all kinds of tablets and smartphones. Seems sometimes they just want to be plugged in for a couple hours after going completely dead

The Switch takes an age to respond when completely discharged. Leave it plugged in and it should hopefully boot up after 15-30 minutes

Don't know what the Switch uses, but Li-ion batteries can die totally if completely discharged, and a year can accomplish that unfortunately. If it hasn't come to life after a whole week, it is probably gone for good...

Leave it plugged in overnight with the charger it came with. I've done this a few times, it should be fine. Worst case if it's dead, iFixIt has new batteries and a walk through for replacing them
