A fursuit auction could score $1,000,000 and I still won't begrudge the artist or buyer, because I'm not interested in bad faith arguments. Could the money be better spent on other things? Sure, if YOU were the one spending it. I'd rather see artists prosper from their work.

I've gotta agree. If someone has a cool mil to drop on a fursuit, then more power to them, and props to the artist for making bank. As someone who used to be one of those price nay-sayers, I suspect envy is at the root of it, either consciously or not.
Once I realized that I was envious of *having* the financial freedom to drop a huge stack of bills for a suit, and partly the artist for receiving it, I realized exactly why it would "rub me wrong", and it had zero to do with the buyer or artist actually doing anything wrong.

"As someone who used to be one of those price nay-sayers, I suspect envy is at the root of it..." It may also be disappointment if they were shopping around, & they had their heart set on one particular fursuit maker, but the price kept climbing out of their reach again & again.

Normally with rising prices, more fursuit makers enter the market, but if a fursuit maker is relatively new to the scene, then it is difficult to convince people to take a risk with them on creating big-ticket items, when construction quality, style, & trust are largely unproven.
