Oh trust me, before they got their shot at the big boy seat they did their share of "debate meeeee!" stuff even back then. That's how it starts.
Tangential, but I had this discussion with a friend earlier today, actually: The furry community hasn't become any more open towards garbage people, they've just become more visible, and so have the callouts. Furs are empowered now more than ever before to take out the trash.

They are pretty good at curating their communities, the one time I went to a furry convention it was the chillest convention ever.

It hasn't always been that way, either. What people confuse for an increasing amount of "callout culture" is just people being empowered to speak out about things that'd have been expected to be taken up "in private" and swept under the rug 10, 15 years ago.
