The level of community acrimony from Mojang's decision to split the summer update into two major point releases makes me really sad.
The fact that Mojang are taking the time for quality #Minecraft updates rather than shoving it all into one slipshod release should be celebrated.

I personally like the split update. An update that large all at once would likely obliterate computers that arent at least mediocre. Even on 1.16.5 I can barely run a singleplayer world without lagging, and I use an HP laptop. Splitting it in half saves bad computers from death
Performance aside, it seems that the dev team made the least bad decision in a no-win scenario. Delay the entire update until it's ready, community gets upset. Split the release and, unfortunately, community still gets upset, but less so.
