I've asked before, but is there anyone following who has a self-hosted blog? If so, what CMS do you use, if any? I'm looking for something that doesn't involve faffing about with HTML or other markup languages, and has some relatively basic features.
Just something that's relatively WYSIWYG, gives a decent enough UI+header to users where they can look through old posts, and allows me to do things like in-line embedded images and YouTube embedding without much of a fuss. Oh, and won't get owned by spambots within 5 seconds.

Sounds like smth for a static site generator, the WYSIWYG part might lack but there are options where you run a temp server locally to edit and then generate everything statically.
-
That sounds pretty far outside my wheelhouse. My time is fairly limited these days, and I'd prefer to focus it on things like MAME rather than bringing up some local IT infrastructure to simply blog about MAME. It's great if it's a good fit for folks, just not me.

I use a plugin called WP Cerber that blocks spambots quite well. It basically stops anything and anyone who is trying to do stuff they're not supposed to at the IP level. They recently changed their IP block system though and some of us aren't happy about it.
-
I've also gotten into the habit of blocking ENTIRE IP RANGES via htaccess. Because there's no reason Ali Baba needs to look at my site.

If you just want quick and easy, lots of hosting providers have point-and-click WordPress setup and hosting, and it's got plugins for everything you want. It's sort of overkill for what you want, but it's so common that it's probably the easiest thing.
-
Just, as you probably know, make sure either you or the hosting provider will keep both the base install and plugins up-to-date.

Use a static site generator. Hugo is one I've used. Write your posts in markdown with a bit of info blurb at top, run the site gen and host wherever..
-
And if you're using a static site, you can host for free with github pages

I think we've talked about this before, but my recommendation is still Bolt. It's all fairly straightforward, but messing about with HTML (as Twig templates) is unavoidable, unless you use a pre-made theme, of which there are plenty.
Kiitos. Käytämme tätä aikajanasi parantamiseen. KumoaKumoa
