This is a weirdly naïve way of looking at it though. There's a burgeoning aftermarket of shady resellers who give precisely zero fucks about retro enthusiasts, and just want to make some coin. So they buy these machines at a premium, then part them out for an even larger premium.
With the ever-dwindling number of these machines in friendly hands, the opportunities to pick up such machines are minimal nowadays. So at some point it comes time to reckon with such resellers.
Because Sweden is a small-ass country, and that's about the only option I have for copping a Sun or SGI machine in good, working condition, unless there's some Fort Knox of Sun or SGI machines here in the EU that I don't know about.
Yeah, it really sucks. Especially as there was never a large number of these in friendly hands. They're in a weird economic spot, as there's a very limited inventory and the machines only have value to a handful of people.
Like, on one hand it's nice that someone is holding on to these at all (I paid to recycle an Indy some 20 years ago and... have some regrets) but on the other hand it sucks they they're being exploitative in pricing
