Question for my retro workstation followers: What would be a reasonable price to pay for: - Sun Ultra 10, 450MHz CPU module, 1GB RAM, 3D UPA card (completely working) - SPARCstation 20, new SCSI HDD + CDROM, RAM, spare PSU, cables, cards [Ed.: which?]

Well, then a good estimate for the ultra 10 cost would be "what does it cost in freight to ship from someone who is giving one away?"

This is a weirdly naïve way of looking at it though. There's a burgeoning aftermarket of shady resellers who give precisely zero fucks about retro enthusiasts, and just want to make some coin. So they buy these machines at a premium, then part them out for an even larger premium.

I see it this way: you can get one from the other side of the world if you pay the shipping costs. So if you're trying to get one locally, it should be cheaper than that. Also I confirm people sem a bit too enthusiastic about donating me sparc hardware and getting rid of it

These machines weigh about as much as a boat anchor. I recently picked up an absolutely pristine Ultra 5 for exactly 100 EUR. Unless it's possible to ship something like that across the Atlantic for $120, it's still a pretty good deal. That's where I'm working from here.

Lataaminen näyttää kestävän hetken.
