Being able to see things from a user perspective, and temporarily shed any domain-specific knowledge you have, is a rare talent. There's no shame in not being able to do it, but it's a reason to reach out to a UI/UX specialist if it's important enough to act upon.

This might sound stupid, but it's why I tend to go out of my way to play-test the game we're working on as *infrequently* as possible. If I'm coding UI, I want my experience to be as close to that of a brand new user as possible.
