What's the best way of getting into preserving/modeling video output devices, without ending up going down the video equivalent of the audiophile snake-oil woo path?

Er, it's actually still an Open PR. I'm closing it. Not to mention: it's not a PR. There's no code, and probably never will be. It was at best a misfiled GitHub issue - basically a feature request. But... objectively terrible and enfuriating.
Infuriating, yes, but I would still put Blur Busters a step above audiophile snake-oil on the technical ladder. There's a method to the madness, it just comes off as mad because, honestly, the engineering that goes into display tech is largely undocumented these days.

They really need to work on that "-not- coming off as mad". I would recommend to them that -that- is where they need to focus their efforts right now, they're doing okay on the technical research. You don't usually win sign-on with 10000-word manifestos.
