The whole multiplayer Steam-session issue that's affecting #StardewValley is unfortunate, and a bad look.
This is exactly the sort of thing that a competent QA team would flag prior to release. But I'm not sure SDV even has any proper QA on PC prior to any given release.

It honestly chafes me that such a popular game, with such massive revenue, still has such a bargain-basement approach towards QA prior to a major release. I understand that this issue only reared its head in between releases, and might be only indirectly related.

Nonetheless, the whole "Steam clients don't think that they're connected to Steam" issue is a significant issue (based on the 30+ page thread on the Community Hub on Steam), yet there has been zero communication from the dev team other than the issue post. That's not cool.

As I see it, if you have a game with such a wide player base as Stardew Valley, then you owe it to people to be as transparent as possible as to what's going on. If not you, then your third-party contractors. Why have we not had any updates in over a week on this critical issue?
